Product Description
150 years ago, in 1873, a great model in the history of handguns was manufactured. It is the "Colt Single Action Army (SAA)," a gun that symbolizes the American Wild West era. Although there have been several production stoppages and specification changes, the .45 Long Colt caliber is nicknamed "Peace Maker" and is a long-selling gun that is still sold to civilians by Colt.
The models produced from 1956, after a temporary production halt during World War II, until 1974 are called the Second Generation. Compared to the first-generation black powder model, there are differences in appearance, such as the cylinder fixing base pin being screwed in from the front of the frame with one screw in the first generation, while it is fixed with screws and nuts from both sides of the frame in the second generation, and the ejector rod head being circular and crescent-shaped. In post-war Westerns, the readily available second-generation models mentioned above were primarily used. Western films became hits, and television Westerns were also produced in large numbers. These were imported and broadcast in Japan, becoming a huge sensation. In recent years, the SAA has regained attention, with characters using it in video games, protagonists using custom SAAs in action films featuring a large cast of action stars, and the success of open-world action games with a Western theme.
The first model of Tanaka's PEGASAS system revolver airsoft gun, released in 1999 and still in production today, was this SAA. At the time, cartridge-type gas guns were the main type of airsoft revolver, but the Pegasus system succeeded in reproducing a realistic internal structure and a delicate trigger feel that was impossible with conventional cartridge-type gas guns by moving and consolidating the gas tank and magazine mechanism inside the cylinder.
In 2005, it underwent a minor change as a detachable cylinder model, making the cylinder detachable like a real gun, increasing realism and improving maintainability, such as making gas charging easier.
The spread of this Pegasus-type SAA led to the development of competitions such as "Cowboy Shooting" (Western-style shooting matches using airsoft guns) and "Fast Draw" (a time trial shooting competition using the SAA, competing to see how quickly one can draw the gun from the holster and fire).
However, problems with the Pegasus-type SAA also became apparent. In the above competitions, the emphasis on speed in drawing and firing, and shooting with both hands, placed an unprecedented burden on various parts of the gun, which was not anticipated in the design of typical airsoft guns, so users customized their guns to cope with this.
Through repair requests received by our company, it became clear that the SAA is a gun that is subjected to much more abuse than other automatic pistols or double-action revolvers.
Around 2018, a plan to refine the SAA was initiated within the company to address this issue. It was designed under the development concept of "high durability, enhanced realism, and performance suitable for survival games and fast draw competitions." The cylinder fixing mechanism, which was a concern with the detachable cylinder system, has been changed to a system where the base pin penetrates the cylinder, just like a real firearm. This new system, named "PEGASAS II," utilizes the base pin to strike the valve inside the cylinder (patent pending). A variable HOP-up mechanism is also included for use in survival games. Furthermore, to address the limited ammunition capacity of revolvers, an inner magazine system similar to other Pegasus models has been adopted. It also allows for 10 reserve rounds within the ejector tube, enabling a total of 25 shots. In addition, cushioning and reinforced parts have been added to internal components subject to stress, and various parts have been made more realistic.
Consideration has also been given to existing users, with some parts (hammer, trigger, bolt, backstrap, grip, etc.) designed to be compatible with detachable cylinder models.
Now, a long-awaited heavyweight model of the PEGASAS II series 7-½ inch is available. Even the original ABS model was heavy enough to be mistaken for a heavyweight model, but this new version is even heavier.
Even more importantly, the use of heavyweight resin allows for bluing, which is a significant advantage.
This heavyweight model, which expands the possibilities for SAA customization, is now available in the popular 7-½ inch size.
