Product description
Based on S&W's Chief Special, a model with a hidden hammer to prevent it from getting caught on clothing was developed for self-defense purposes and sold to the public under the name "Bodyguard."
This model was different from the double-action-only Centennial, which completely covered the hammer, but the tip of the hammer was exposed and could also be used for single action.
Initially, there was only a lightweight version with an aluminum frame (later the M38 Bodyguard Air Weight), but a steel frame version was also added to the lineup and was called the "M49 Bodyguard.''
Basically, a 2-inch barrel model comes to mind, but there was also a 3-inch barrel model.
Although portability was sacrificed and the overall balance was disrupted, accuracy could be improved by using a 1-inch longer barrel and single action.
It also had the advantage of being able to use a longer ejector rod than the 2-inch model, which ensured ejection of the .38 Special bullet.
The 3-inch model of the real gun is produced in very small numbers, making it a premium model.
