A Brief Note on the Real "New Model Army"...
Since the actual firearm upon which this model is based is not widely known, we would like to share a few details with our fans here.
The New Model Army is a revolver manufactured by the U.S. firm Remington from 1863 to 1875. With a reported total production run of 132,000 units, it is a .44 caliber percussion revolver with a six-round capacity. The "percussion" system refers to a firing mechanism that predates the advent of the metal cartridges familiar in modern firearms. Featuring an 8-inch octagonal barrel, the revolver's percussion cylinder included safety notches positioned between the nipples; this safety feature allowed the user to carry the firearm safely even when fully loaded with all six rounds.
It is also renowned for its use during the American Civil War (1861–1865), where it served as a direct rival to the Colt Model 1860 Army. While the Colt 1860 Army featured an "open-top" design, the New Model Army utilized a "solid frame" construction, setting it apart from the 1860 Army in terms of sheer durability and ruggedness.
