This model replicates the M92FS—which received tactical updates, including a reinforced slide—with the substantial, realistic heft characteristic of heavy-weight resin construction. [Reinforced Beretta M92FS "Brigadier"] Before the M9 became the official sidearm, the U.S. Navy SEALs adopted the M92SB; however, three instances of slide failure occurred during training. While it was later announced that the issues stemmed from the refining and processing of the metal used for the slides, some suggested that the failure points—where the slide engages with the barrel's locking block—indicated a structural weakness. The M92FS was developed with improvements designed to dispel these concerns. Consequently, in 1993, Beretta introduced a new, more durable slide. This slide was 1 mm thicker, and a raised, wedge-shaped reinforcement was added to the area where the locking lugs engage. Models featuring this reinforced slide were adopted as standard-issue sidearms by agencies such as the U.S. Border Patrol and the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), as the design was deemed well-suited for the powerful .40 S&W cartridge—a caliber that was the standard for law enforcement at the time. Subsequently, the model was introduced to the commercial market under the name "Brigadier" (inheriting the designation originally used for the M951). While a standard M92FS weighs 944g, the Brigadier weighs 1,000g; this added mass has proven effective in mitigating recoil and muzzle flip during firing. Today, the Brigadier slide is widely utilized across various tactical variants based on the M92 series. Western Arms (WA) has recreated this model using their highly regarded "Carbon Black" heavy-weight material—applied not only to the slide and frame but also to the grip panels—resulting in a substantial, realistic heft that rivals the actual firearm. This model captures the M92FS as modernized through Beretta USA’s unique design approach. The slide, which prominently features the "ELITE" logo, includes front cocking serrations to improve handling when chambering the first round. It is equipped with a highly visible dovetail front sight, complete with a white dot. The enlarged combat-style rear sight also functions as a "cocking shoulder," a design feature that facilitates one-handed slide manipulation (racking the slide against an object or using an underhand grip). The outer barrel is a 4.7-inch stainless-style unit, designed with portability in mind—making it ideal for use in confined spaces like indoors or inside vehicles, as well as for constant, comfortable carry. This specialized barrel—shorter than the standard 5-inch M92FS barrel—is crafted from heavyweight resin and features "STAINLESS" markings on the top surface. The front and back straps of the frame are enhanced with non-slip checkering, ensuring a secure hold. Additionally, the base of the compact beavertail features a "high-grip cut," further improving the overall grip feel.
